Please join Lorenzo in a brief journey through the “Seven Valleys” by Bahá’u’lláh, where, through texts, visuals and discussion, he will explore a quality we often call soul in art.
Lorenzo has been painting and looking at art for almost fifty years. One of his primary concerns as a visual artist is to understand this quality of soul. Works without it, no matter how refined or sophisticated, cannot be considered as art. Conversely, very humble endeavors with this quality may. As a Bahá’í, he has been reading and rereading the Seven Valleys for as long as he has been painting. He has found numerous gems in this text that serve as a guide in day-to-day life as well as in being a painter. These help him identify the qualities necessary in bringing spirit, meaning and endurance to whatever materials he hopes to transform into art.
Presenter Bios: Lorenzo Depuis lives and works in Saskatoon. His formal studies in Art took place at the University of Saskatchewan. He completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 1975, and a Masters Of Fine Arts Degree in 1995.
Lorenzo’s work has been recognized in a variety of ways. He has received awards on eight different occasions from the Saskatchewan Arts board. He has been reviewed in both French and English publications, most notably, the winter 1999 issue of “Border Crossings”. His exhibition record includes numerous group exhibitions, and over thirty solo exhibitions from Vancouver to Montreal in both public and commercial galleries.
Finally. Lorenzo’s work is included in numerous national and international private, corporate, and public collections.
